If you do not score a minimum of 75 points for your attributes and 10 points for English language and 10 points for available maintenance (funds), your application will be refused.

You can score up to 20 points for your age if you are under 32 years old on the date of your application. The points awarded are:

  • Under 28 years old - 20

Points are only awarded for one qualification.

You will only be awarded points for qualifications which have been assessed and recognized by UK NARIC. The points-based calculator contains information from UK NARIC on the equivalency of overseas qualifications.

Use may also the points based calculator to calculate how many points you have and whether you are eligible to work in the United Kingdom as a highly skilled worker under the points-based system.

The Time you spend in the United Kingdom under the Tier 1 may count towards the qualifying period for permanent residency (ILR) in the United Kingdom

Use the points based calculator to calculate how many points you have and whether you are eligible to work in the United Kingdom as an entrepreneur under the points-based system

Points are awarded for the following categories, which are known as attributes:

  • access to £200,000;

Post-study worker

The post-study worker category allows us to retain the most able international graduates who have studied in the United Kingdom. It also enhances the United Kingdom's overall offer to international students.

Post-study workers are free to look for work without having a sponsor for the length of their leave.

The category provides a bridge to highly skilled or skilled work. If you are granted permission to stay as a post-study worker, we expect that you will switch into another tier of the points-based system as soon as you are able to.

You can apply under the post-study worker category now if you are:

  • United Kingdom qualification;
  • studied at United Kingdom institution;
  • immigration status during United Kingdom study and/or research;
  • date of award of qualification;
  • English language;
  • Maintenance (funds).
