The home office have announced today that after a lengthy consultation by the Migration Advisory committee, it has been confirmed that Skilled Chefs is now a recognised shortage category in the UK.

Skilled Chefs filling positions that pay over £8.10 per hour after all deductions for Living and accommodation cost have been taken into account, will  fall into this category. Under the new point based  system, employers will not be required to advertise the position to take the resident worker test.

The Applicant will be awarded 50 points for being offered a position listed in the shortage category. In addition he will need to get 20 points to meet the Point based criteria.

The Point Based system will come into effect from 27 November 2008.
